Synopsis

A young woman prepares to take part in the Romaria d’Agonia. Before putting on the traditional costume, she reads a letter left by her grandmother, placing her within a continuum of memory and inheritance. From this intimate gesture, the film follows the Romaria as a collective experience, revealing it as a living heritage — not a spectacle, but a shared practice that crosses generations and renews the identity of Viana do Castelo.

Objectives

To portray the Romaria d’Agonia as a living heritage through gesture, memory and transmission rather than spectacle. The film aims to create an emotional connection between generations, highlighting collective participation, identity and continuity, while reinforcing Viana do Castelo as a place where tradition is actively lived and renewed. The project follows a sustainable and community-based production model. It was filmed entirely in Viana do Castelo with local crews and non-professional participants from the community. The film is made with the people of the city, not about them, reinforcing local involvement, cultural continuity and reducing environmental impact through proximity-based production.
