Objectives

Epidaurus is reintroduced as more than a historical site — as a living symbol of global cultural memory and a contemporary destination close to Athens. The film defines a clear tourism identity that had never been articulated before, revealing the place as immersive, experiential, and emotionally engaging. Through cinematic storytelling, Epidaurus becomes a destination to explore, feel, and discover, and also sparks an international conversation around the return of cultural treasures. Born as fiction yet built on verified history, this film was shaped with guidance from Epidaurus' leading archaeologists . A British Museum coin sparked the concept, while a scientific team recreated an ancient papyrus in Ancient Greek. Costumes come from the Greek National Theatre's Aristophanes "The Birds", and the Greek spoken excerpt is drawn from Kazantzakis' "Askitiki". An ancient-style performance was staged exclusively for this film. Crafted as a cinematic short, it also gained first filming access to the new International Museum of Epidaurus and rare permission to film within the Ancient Theatre as part of an official tourism campaign.
